Restraining Orders, Twitter Videos, and Fan Movements: What is Happening with Stan Lee?
Something is up with Stan Lee. The iconic comic legend and former Marvel writer's newfound social media presence was something that had comic fans stirring for days just a few months ago. Now, after news of restraining orders, changes in management, and a slew of other claims regarding his caretakers, we are going to break down what exactly is going on with the famed editor, and if something needs to be done about it.
News of what was going on first started stirring when Stan very randomly posted a Twitter video claiming that both his Instagram and Facebook accounts had been hacked and that he had not been in control of any of his social media at all. This both shocked and confused fans as Stan had been tweeting and posting for years. A presumed theory had been spun that somewhere along the line of Stan's management, somebody had been posting as Stan and lying to everyone along the way.
Stan continued to post videos addressing his fans directly on Twitter for days afterwards until another strange happening occurred. TMZ broke the news that a restraining order was filed against Keya Morgan, Stan's manager. A brief legal battle ensued, and Keya Morgan himself claimed that the restraining order was a "witch-hunt" put on by Stan's daughter.
The full quote from Morgan read, "For over 10 years I have shown nothing but love, respect & kindness to Stan Lee, & his wife, a fact he has repeated countless times . . . This is a witch-hunt by his daughter and her lawyer against me because she cannot stand the fact Stan likes me so much. I will 100% prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that the allegations against me are false. The truth will come out."
Keya Morgan, former friend of Donald Trump Jr. and producer on MoviePass' famous financial flop Gotti, served as Stan Lee's manager for a short period of time and eventually plead not guilty to the elder-abuse claims laid at his feet last week.
This also confused fans as Stan had posted a Twitter video just the month before claiming that Keya was his "only partner and business manager," and that everyone else was making false claims. Those keen fans who were paying attention became split into two parties -- those that believed Keya Morgan that Stan's daughter was lying and defaming him, or those that became conspiracy theorists and thought that Morgan was abusing Stan and forcing him to lie and read from scripts in the videos.
5 days after the plea, the judge ruled in favor of Morgan and dismissed the restraining order protecting Lee. Tom Lallas, the attorney arguing for a permanent restraining order against Morgan, was allegedly approached by other lawyers claiming to represent Lee. Lallas afterwards called the entire scenario, "very unusual", and went as far as to say that he hadn't experienced anything like it, "in 40 years."
During the entire legal battle and as soon as Keya was away from Stan, he was no longer posting on social media and the Twitter update videos had stopped. As soon as the judge dismissed the order, the videos suddenly resumed.
Stan updated his followers once again, claiming he was back. POW! Entertainment released a statement saying that they would be continuing to run Stan's social media accounts following the dropped $1B lawsuit. Stan released another video afterwards remembering his friend and colleague Steve Ditko and that is where we are at now.
One of the strangest moments of his return video is when he claims, "it's taken me awhile to get used to being 79 years old." This is of course weird as a quick Google search will tell you that Stan Lee is actually 95. Some saw this as a joke about his old age and others saw it as a reference to Marvel themselves recently turning 79. Either way, Stan seems to be physically struggling throughout the entire video to speak and has difficulty getting a full sentence out.
It seems that Keya Morgan is continuing to manage Stan Lee. Most fans have strung together, however, that something seriously wrong is happening with him. He seems visibly shook up in all of the update videos, and in some of them, you can even see his eyes moving off-screen to read what is assumed to be scripts.
The conclusion to this comprehensive timeline of Stan's wellbeing and Keya Morgan's influence is yet to take place. We will be eager to see how this all ends up, but the majority of fans' opinions on the matter are that POW! Entertainment are not good for Lee. Fan hashtags and movements have been started to "Free Stan Lee" and another movement is aimed at letting him know that fans are there for him.
Either way, Stan remains under the control of POW! and Morgan and is going to continue to upload these very upsetting videos in the meantime. Everyone at Comic Fade wishes the best for the Marvel legend, and we hope that he gets what he wants and what is best for him.
